Dear friends,
the magazine issue about the Erasmus IP experience has been published, and will be sent as soon as possible to the teaching staff and students.
The newspaper is a synthesis and evaluation of Atoms&Bits design experience and the starting point of the second step of our collaboration. This step foresee the enforcement of our network thank to the participation to COST programme and to the IUAV research unity “The new silk road”.
Today the IUAV group is working ot the idea of “new road” connecting the Marghera Fondaco urban system. I’m very interested to know the ideas of our international partners about the next steps of our collaboration.
Thank you at all for the enthusiastic participation in Atoms&Bits experience.

Watch the IP Erasmus Team, before taking off towards EAST: metabolizing a method, brainstorming, working hard, finalizing, and relaxing.

The project proposes the concep of “ the three loops”,  with the aim to increase the tolerance. Each loop concerns the physical and immaterial resources (Knowledge, business,...) connections.
The loop system needs a platform able to  address the driving forces of development in  the 'Nodus' - a point where the three loops are interlinked. The Nodus is a point of complexity where local and foreign people meet in a real or virtual way, enhancing communication and knowledge sharing. In this unique settlement natural environment, human activities and technology meet in sustainable way. Toxics will be removed by bioremediation (bacteria transforming toxic substances).

The China Cluster aims to be a space where China and Italy knowledges and cultures meet in order to preserve themselves and permit the emergence of new ideas, thank the interaction of these two  rich cultures.
Our Cluster, as understood in the Astronomy, is an aggregation of elements exerting a gravitational attraction of knowledge and then exploding and spreading this knowledge. In our case these two processes happening in the same time.

The future will be based on immateriality; the current material functions are going to be dematerialized, for that reason we propose to develop an economy based on ICT, knowledge transfer, reinforcing the New Silk Route with a layer of knowledge.
Our mission is to be experts on codevelopment of mixed products - Cashmere identity and ICT (Chasbits). We need to understand and improve this products and services; the way to recycle, reuse and redesign them.
Our vision is that we are moving from matter (atoms) to bits, to protect and improve natural environment.

Year 2010: economic, environmental and social crisis appears, involving the global population. In the same time, we are all conscious that we are depleting the planet earth resources, endangering existence as we know it.
We are the inhabitants of Earth, a finite world with finite resources. But our lifestyle pushes us to consume always more, and to be excessively busy most of the time. Our high levels of consumption and our stressed way of life are unsustainable.
We need to degrowth, we need to slow down. The only way to degrowth is through slowing our pace. In our proposal for Porto Marghera, you will find the South East Asian (SEA) and Japan Fondaco – a peaceful and welcoming community who learns how to live in balance with local resources aiming to export this knowledge and experiences all over the world.

The idea of Erasmus IP "Atoms&Bits" to design new infrastructures with the aim to strengthen the relationship between Europe and Asia has become a necessity with the opening of the New Silk Road by sea, connecting Venice with Colombo (India), Singapore, Hong Kong, Shangai, Pusan (Korea).
The first of these infrastructures is inspired to historical 'Fondaco' model and it is located in the deindustrialised territory of Porto Marghera (Venice)

This project  suggests  to attract eastern culture and  experiences in order to trigger a new development cycle involving the West.
In this way borns a new euroasiatic space with new euroasiatic platforms, designed on the basis of scenarios at 2050.  The Porto Marghera 2050 design  is based on the five clusters articulation: each cluster scope is to attract new knowledge, to mix different life styles, to increase natural resources, to reinforce the social cohesion in the global world.

Venice new road for the east....
